Rage of the Sea

The god, Poseidon, speaks in his wrath:

He blinds my son and expects me to show him mercy. My patience with Odysseus has been excessively prolonged. My sister Hera had me help the Greeks, and I did. I gave them fair seas and good sail. Then I brought forth a little storm upon them for blinding my son. Zeus, my brother, does not see eye to eye on this subject with me.

He took away my bag of winds my power to create storms of fright and fury. He might as well change me into his obedient hound since he dare make me powerless! I asked for Hera’s help for the problem. She outright refused. I guess she is in hot water with Zeus for putting him to sleep.

Odysseus! How does this man enrage me so? The King of Aeolia decided to be a hospitable host. That is fine, but when he gives away my powers to the one whom I hate, he shall pay. Now they are going home to Ithaca using my bestowed powers. Soon enough I will have my revenge.

The fools opened the bag completely. The week of my punishment is over and now my powers have returned thanks to Eurylochus. This is magnificent-- all of the winds and storms carrying them back away from their precious Ithaca! Yes, they are back to Aeolia! It serves them right .Maybe next time they won’t be so foolish.

I still have my eye on you, Odysseus.
